Another Spring Carnival is Over...
Ah! Spring Carnival. Where women all over Melbourne think nothing of spending over $1000 for a single day out (think about it...... pedestrian pass, marquee ticket, new shoes, dress, hat/fascinator plus drinks, taxis and after race celebrations...).There is something quite touching about 800 strangers packed into one train carriage, breathing heavy, alcoholic breath over each other and deciding that we are all best buddies and break out into song together. The photo on the left is of my friend Paula and I in a train after Derby Day and I must say, we actually look reasonably ok! Flash forward a couple of hours and my sunburned forehead is revealed in all it's glowing glory and I somehow manage to lose my elegant demeanor in subsequent photos of the evening (see below)
Yep. Nothing like posing with your glamorous friends (Tobi with the great suntan and Topaz with the fab halter neck dress) and your mate who decides that after a 12 hour drinking session, your fascinator is the closest thing to food he's going to see. You'll be pleased to know that I managed to drop Tony off at the golden arches on my way home, much to the amusement of the taxi driver.
I woke up the next morning and without even getting up, I could feel my poor feet aching. After being a veteran of over 8 Spring Carnivals I am proud to say I have NEVER removed my shoes on the walk home. I leave that to the young amateurs who mistake night-club gear for racewear...
All in all, a brilliant day was had and special thanks go to Kimba for the company, Tess for her kind generosity (I just lurve french champagne) and all my favorite CW's for such a great time.
